Third Act: Shake Your Booty

Jazmine Sullivan attends the 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards Style Studio held at the Smashbox Studios on February 4, 2009 in Los Angeles, California.
1. Botkier Rosa, $595, www.piperlime.com; 2. Cybul in Black, $129.95, www.stevemadden.com; 3. Hunny, $127.96, www.stevemadden.com; 4. Manhunt, $169.99, www.ninewest.com; 5. Janie Boot, $319.99, www.usa.frenchconnection.com; 6. Treto, $180, www.aldoshoes.com; 7. Leatherette Zipper High Heel Boot, $30.50, www.gojane.com; 8. Link Boot, $46.90, www.alloy.com

Have you "booted" up yet? If not, you'd better hurry, the weather has taken a nasty turn for the worst. Safely tucked away until next season are my ballet flats and sandals. Out have come my uggs, sneakers and boots. I'd like to think that I'm ready for the worst of it but I do, however, need a leather, flat boot to wear with my sweater dresses and skinny jeans. I've opted for Steve Madden's slouch "Cybul" boot (pictured above).
It's true. A girl can never have too many heels, but she must also keep a trusty pair of flats by her side. If you just can't do without a heel they're plenty of low/kitten-heeled boots in stores such as Aldo and online at www.piperlime.com.

Shake It Like You Really Mean It!

Shake Your Booty’s inviting and funky store front in DC’s Adams’s Morgan.

D.C. natives have a secret. When they want the best in funky, unique and stylish shoes that don’t break the purse strings, they head to only one place – Shake Your Booty! Most of the shoes are made by unknown designers but don’t let that deter you, cuteness does not discriminate. You can also buy some great accessories at the boutique and I hear they have started selling clothes too. With the fun and zest of a New York Boutique but the prices of a regular high-street store a girl can’t go wrong. Sorry D.C., I just couldn’t keep it a secret anymore!

I haven’t had time to post this week. I’m settling into a new job and beginning to look for an apartment but I scraped together a few of my favorite stylish, winter boots online. All are inspired by Gabrielle’s pair spotted on a recent trip shopping in LA. And what is this season’s trend? Buckles. A simple buckle or two can give an ordinary boot some edge.

Shake Your Booty!

Candid of Kate Moss in London last year.
Jessica Simpson arrives for her performance on The Early Show at CBS Plaza earlier this month in New York City.
Golden Brooks arriving at the CW Launch Party at the Warner Bros. Studio last night in Burbank, California.

If ankle boots are not quite your thing then try these tan colored, knee-high boots that are surfacing all over the shops. They look great with jeans or a dress and just imagine a great winter coat draped on top of your outfit. Boots teamed with a trench coat is a look that’ll never go out of style. And while you’re here take a moment to admire Kate Moss’ pair… if anyone knows who designed them please let me know - I want them!

My Picks!

Left to Right: Shari, $139.95, Steve Madden; Andy, $48.00, Rampage; SKU #7220807 by Zigi NY, $133.95, www.zappos.com
Left to Right: Leather Fold Over Boot by Miss Sixty, $278.00, Urban Outfitters; Leather Platform Boot, $125.00, Urban Outfitters; BKE Sole Jessie Boot, $49.50, www.buckle.com

The Steve Madden boots are my absolute favorites and for $50 the Rampage pair come in at a close second! But all of them are versatile enough to fit into most people’s existing closet. Notice that I picked boots with varying heels since some of you may want to wear your boots during the day, therefore you don’t want to worry about comfort. When you buy boots be sure to try them on without pants so you can determine whether they fit well enough to wear with a skirt or dress. ;)
